一本发表SCI论文的“神刊”

今天我们用美国医学会杂志JAMA2017年11月发表一篇论文(doi:10.1001/jama.2017.17077)讨论语言表述。

这篇论文的标题是Effect of Oral Capsule– vs Colonoscopy-Delivered Fecal Microbiota Transplantation on Recurrent Clostridium difficile Infection: A Randomized Clinical Trial
(粪菌移植预防艰难梭状芽孢杆菌感染复发：口服胶囊与结肠镜移植对比的临床试验)

上图是论文中给出的流程图。需要描述的是：
1）两个组别分别入组多少人，总共入组多少人；
2）样本的年龄和性别特征；
3）多少人按照既定方案完成了研究。

我把这张图和背后的数据，给到了一位医生朋友，他写出来是这样的。

「One hundred sixteen patients were enrolled in the current study. Average age of the patients was 58+19 (SD) years.  Thirty-seven patients (32%) were male; seventy-nine (68%) were female. Fifty-seven and fifty-nine patients were assigned to the oral capsule group and the colonoscopy group, respectively. One hundred and five patients (91%) completed the trial. 」
从这几句话可以看到，我的这位朋友英文很好。但说话太啰嗦，四句话53个字，才把事情交代清楚。

同样的信息，论文作者的表述是「Among 116 patients randomized (mean [SD] age,58 [19] years;79 women [68%]), 105 (91%) completed the trial, with 57 patients randomized to the capsule group and 59 to the colonoscopy group.」
116位患者随机入组，胶囊组和结肠镜组分别57和59人，共105人完成试验。年龄、性别等信息用括号放在句子里面。

一句话，32个字，解决问题。

同样一件事情，你能用更小的篇幅交代清楚，你的文章就会更短、更好，别人读起来更快。
